A Faith, Fitness & Fido Challenge
By Robin LeBlanc
There are times when faith feels like a mountaintop experience.
There are also times when faith feels more like a long walk down a dusty trail.
Most of us spend far more time on the trail.
That is why the Apostle Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 6:4-7 resonate so deeply. Rather than focusing on comfort, success, or recognition, Paul describes the discipline required to remain faithful when life becomes difficult. He reminds believers that spiritual growth is not forged in ease, but through perseverance.
“But in all things we approve ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses…”
Paul continues by listing hardships, labor, fasting, purity, kindness, knowledge, and love. Then he arrives at a powerful conclusion:
“By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand, and on the left.” 2 Corinthians 6:7
As I reflected on this passage, I realized it perfectly describes the heart of Faith, Fitness & Fido.
First and foremost, this journey is about fellowship.
The fitness happens naturally as we walk together with the Lord in faith. Along the way, we cultivate habits and disciplines that strengthen our bodies, sharpen our minds, deepen our faith, and provide enrichment for our faithful furry family members.
Just as Paul speaks of patience, endurance, and perseverance, each walk reminds us that growth rarely happens overnight. Strong faith is built one prayer at a time. Strong bodies are developed one step at a time. Strong relationships grow one conversation at a time.
And often, right beside us, is a dog eager to enjoy the journey.
This Week’s Faith, Fitness & Fido Challenge
Faith
Read 2 Corinthians 6:4-7 each day this week.
Ask yourself:
- Where do I need more patience?
- What discipline is God calling me to develop?
- How can I better rely upon the Word of Truth and the power of God?
Fitness
Take a purposeful 20-minute walk.
Focus less on speed and more on gratitude.
Notice God’s creation.
Listen more than you speak.
Allow your walk to become an opportunity for prayer and reflection.
Fido
Spend intentional time enriching your dog’s mind.
Practice:
- Loose-leash walking
- Sit and stay exercises
- Recall training
- Confidence-building activities
- Exploration and sniffing opportunities
Remember that mental enrichment is every bit as important as physical exercise.
Fellowship
Reach out to someone this week.
Invite a friend, neighbor, family member, or fellow church member to join you for a walk.
Encourage one another through conversation, prayer, and shared time outdoors.
After all, fellowship is the foundation upon which Faith, Fitness & Fido is built.
Reflection
Paul’s message reminds us that our greatest strength does not come from ourselves.
Not from our physical fitness.
Not from our accomplishments.
Not from our circumstances.
Our strength comes:
“By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand, and on the left.”
As we continue this journey together, may we walk with purpose, encourage one another, and never grow weary of well doing.
Because every walk is an opportunity for fellowship.
Every step is an opportunity for growth.
Every trail is an opportunity to witness God’s creation.
And every faithful furry family member is a reminder of the gifts He has entrusted to our care.
“The Lord who made the sparrow made these faithful furry family members as well.”
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of fellowship, the blessing of faithful companions, and the opportunity to grow stronger in faith each day. Help us to walk in truth, rely upon Your power, and wear the armor of righteousness as we navigate life’s journey. May every step draw us closer to You and encourage those who walk beside us.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
